Real Wedding: A Multicultural Celebration at Saratoga Springs
Saratoga Springs, tucked into the redwoods above the Santa Cruz Mountains, is one of my go-to venues when a couple tells me they want their wedding to feel unlike anyone else’s. It’s also where I got to plan one of my favorite multicultural weddings this year, and I wanted to walk through how it actually came together.
Why I Love Saratoga Springs for Multicultural Weddings
The redwood canopy and creekside ceremony spot give me so much more breathing room than most Bay Area venues — literally and logistically. I can route a baraat through the trees, set up a Western-style reception under string lights that same evening, and give family on both sides enough space that nobody feels like they’re competing for the spotlight. It’s one of the few venues where I never have to talk a couple out of something because “there’s just no room.”
Planning a Wedding That Honored Two Cultures
Multicultural weddings are really two timelines stitched into one, and I plan them that way from day one. For this couple, that meant real time carved out for baraat, milni, jaimala, and phere, instead of squeezing sacred moments into fifteen-minute windows because some generic timeline said so. It also meant briefing vendors who’d never worked a multicultural wedding before — walking the photographer through the shots that actually mattered to this family, prepping the DJ on transitions, making sure nobody got caught off guard mid-ceremony.
